SEO Tips For Cleaning Professionals

Contributed by Robert Kravitz, AlturaSolutions

Many cleaning professionals believe there is a “secret” to effective search engine optimization (SEO), and unless you know the secret, your site will not rank on Google.

In fact, there are no secrets. SEO comes down to using some easy-to-learn strategies.

That’s according to Robert Kravitz with AlturaSolutions, a marketing agency for Influencers and Thought Leaders. Further, he says the process starts with the blog being placed on your website.

To help you get found in search engines, here are some key tips:

Choose a keyword first. The keywords on your blog are often the main topic of the blog. If the post is about “floor cleaning”, the applicable keywords might be cleaning hardwood floors; cleaning tile floors; mopping the floor; or the best way to clean the floor.

Choose a keyword tracking program. Google AdWords is recommended for this, but there are other platforms — some free, some moderately priced — that are easier to use.

Have an interesting title. A catchy title grabs the attention of visitors. “Five Ways to Do This . . .” or “Ten Things You Should Know About It” are memorable and engaging. Asking questions is also effective. “Did you know that the Floor is a Germ Collector?” Well, that draws attention.

Keyword spray. Keywords should be in the first sentence of your blog, second and third paragraphs, and then sprinkled throughout the post. Don’t use it too often. Highlight each time they are used to track them.

An evergreen blog. Unlike shorter blogs, evergreen blogs are 1,000 words or more in length and remain relevant for a long period of time. An evergreen blog is usually an example of thought leadership and is unaffected by changes in search engine algorithms.

Keywords in the title and header. Keywords should be in the post title and subtitle. With a 600 word blog, two or three subtitles with keywords should work well.

Inbound and outbound links. Make sure and add external hyperlinks in your content body and internal links. Internal links lead to more information on your site, and both improve SEO.

The quote is good. Adding quotes from famous and respected people gives the post credibility.

Avoid quotes. Only use quotes around actual quotes. If you need to emphasize a word or group of words, use bold or italics instead of “quotes.”

Images. Images improve SEO if you take advantage of ALT text. Search engines cannot distinguish one image from another. The ALT text tells search engines what the image is about.

“Finally, give it time,” Kravitz added. “Patience and persistence pay off big when it comes to SEO.”
